PhytoSpherix™ is a plant-based form of glycogen (phytoglycogen), which is a highly branched, dendrimeric polymer of glucose that serves as the main form of energy storage in animals and fungi. Starting from a central “seed”, the molecules grow by adding linear chains of glucose that branch at regular intervals. Because of the flexibility of the linear chains, they fill in all of the available space within the molecules. Eventually, the density of glucose units is so high that no further branching can occur and the molecules stop growing. The result is highly branched, uniform density molecules that are all very much the same size – a special structure that is responsible for many of PhytoSpherix’s™ unique properties.
